The use of the superior Fullblood Simmental/Fleckvieh herd bulls from our bloodlines and our AI program is focused on producing bulls that have the calving ease plus the growth pattern and carcass traits that are demanded by the beef industry today. These traits plus the power of their masculinity becomes evident in our breeding herd and the strength of our females.
By developing and using our bulls (even slaughtering offsprings at 10-12 months), we are able to validate the muscle development and the usefulness of our genetics to the meat industry. Fertility and ease of fleshing ability are trademarks of the Manta bloodline. The strength of the cow family behind the bulls produce the cow families of the future. Our polled Simmental/Fleckvieh herd bulls have achieved the same success as the industry's horned.
The addition of CROSSROADS BENCHMARK and BHR THREE SIXES genetics has proven to be a successful influence to our breeding program along with the use of our own young sires.
As vital as the bulls are in our breeding program, the real quality starts with the brood cows. Success in any breeding program depends on their genetic strength that must carry on from generation to generation.
Simmental/Fleckvieh breeders at whatever level, Fullblood, Purebred, or Commercial, all have a base on which to add value to their herds. Trends and fads come and go, but a strong brood cow, carrying superior genetics, will consistently produce the best, male or female. At Kern Simmentals, we don't breed for trends but strive for the quality that will breed true. Another reason that we stay with Fullblood Simmentals.
Optimum production is the necessary requirement. Our Simmental/Fleckvieh females need to perform with the confines of our environment. Their ease of keeping, the ability to make efficient use of our resources with minimum inputs, is a significant trait of the Manta bloodline. They have to show the rigor as well as the femininity of the bloodline. We expect them to have their first calf at 22-24 months of age and calve each year thereafter. Fertility and the ability to calve on their own are prime requirements. Udder formation, milking ability, necessary for high weaning weights, are of utmost significance in light of the new international markets. Structural soundness, everything from body type to feet and legs, is just an accepted necessity. And of course they have to have the genetic consistency to pass these traits on to their offspring.
Embryo transplanting plays an extensive role at Kern Simmentals. In this way we can extend the superior genetics of our elite females, particularly the polled factor.
Embryos from our donor females are available. Please contact us for more details.
