In developing our polled bloodlines, we attempt to remain true to our Fullblood breeding philosophy -
TO PRODUCE AN ANIMAL THAT IS NOT ONLY EFFICIENT IN ITS PERFORMANCE AND PRODUCTIVITY BUT ALSO HAS THE VERSATILITY TO CHANGE WITH THE TRENDS OF OUR BEEF INDUSTRY AND ENVIRONMENT.
We know only too well the difficulty in producing a genetically sound POLLED FULLBLOOD bloodline. Breeding for single trait selection was NOT and still is NOT part of our breeding program. Being polled is not good enough.
Quality and performance, the strengths of the Manta bloodline, are the major criteria in our selection process that allowed us to produce superior polled animals. The criteria for the development of our polled breeding herd are even more stringent.
We feel that, by introducing some of the new fullblood genetics available to us now into our established polled fullblood genetics, we have some of the best to offer in today's evolving beef cattle industry, while staying pure to the Simmental breed. They not only have the physical size that appeals to the breeders of today for commercial purposes but also sufficient size to be able to calve without assistance and to achieve the required performance for today's beef market. IT TAKES ONE GENERATION TO BREED DOWN, BUT THREE GENERATIONS TO BREED UP.
The polled bulls we select have to have all the masculine attributes that we look for in a breeding animal plus the performance with the physical appearance to indicate calving ease. Their virility is a significant factor in producing the productive cows needed, both in fertility and body type for efficiency, to strenghten the polled genetics. Sometimes it is necessary to reach back into a horned genetic pool to keep the polled genetic strong. This is evident in our polled bloodlines of the past and in particular, those that we are offering now.
